Is parasailing scary?
I want to go parasailing in May at the Bahamas, but I am really nervous. I'm afraid of heights, but I like roller coasters..(weird I know) I just get nervous of heights when I'm just standing on something high and leaning over an edge or when I go on pretty tall zip lines.
They say you go 500 feet high, which is REALLY HIGH. That's 3 Statue Of Liberty's (from torch to feet) on top of one another.
*Is it scary? And also if you the rope snapped, would you die from the fall? Thanks. *
Just to clarify, ropes definitely have broken. Just go to youtube and type in "parasailing fail." Also it is well known that water sports/safety in the Bahamas is very poorly regulated and if you get hurt, it's on you. The chances are you would be fine however it is a risk. If you do it, make sure you are well out to sea and away from buildings. I recall hearing of someone who, when the line snapped hit the building. I do not think it was in the Bahamas but it did happen at least once. Also, you could get a back injury or dragged in worse case scenarios e.g., a gust of wind. I guess that is all part of the adventure- you are taking a chance but it would be a fun memory and you would probably be fine.
If your harness broke, yes you could very easily die from that height. If the rope broke, not so much. You would eventually float back down as long as you don't hit anything along the way.
