Pro or against general anestethia in small routine surgery?
such as tonsillectomy, removal of appendix, small-medium cosmetic interventions etc.
My friend is about to have an appendicectomy and she is worried about general anestethia, as she is known to have had side effects from some pain medication before. Would local anestethics prove less risky?
I also know the risk of local anestesia, when I had my appendix removed, the intervention took about two hours longer than expected, I know that local anestethics can't control pain over a long period.
General ANESTHESIA... is necessary for major invasive surgeries, but it depends on the healthcare facility because it's expensive to utilize. I believe your life is always at risk when you have surgery, anesthesia shouldn't be a huge concern. Most of the procedures you listed use local anesthesia and lidocaine/xylocaine.
