how much powdered rit and how much water would you use to dye a ladies size med cotton sundress?
Yes, I did read the directions. I was curious if anyone had dyed something of a similar size, since the item in question weighs less than a pound, and that's what the instructions say one package will dye.
Did you read the directions? That is usually a Very Good first thing to do.
As you already know, you need a certain amount of dye for a certain amount of dry weight fabric. It also depends on the depth of colour you want -- not the hue, but the depth. The amount of water doesn't matter... as long as there is plenty of water so the fabric can move about freely. Any binding or touching of fabric on itself will mean less dye will reach that spot and it will be lighter, producing spotting or streaking. The important thing is to have the right amount of dye for the amount of fabric. Check the instructions for this information.
It goes without saying that you need to be sure you are using cotton dye -- there is also animal fibre dye, and it doesn't work on cotton. Be sure it is fibre reactive (for cellulose fibres) such as cotton, hemp, or linen.
