How to get video tape onto my computer?
I have a Canon video camera.
No its not those old fashioned large cassettes.
It is those mini tapes that most cameras use today.
I have the correct cable my computer just doesn't do anything when the camera is on and plugged in.
I want to edit the videos on windows movie maker.
Thanks to anyone who answers.
You need a firewire cable to do this yourself. If you don't have a firewire port on your computer you can add one to the PCI slot (desktop) or the PCMIA slot (laptop). You can get one at any computer electronics store for ~$35. I use free software from StashSpace.Com called StashBox to import video from my miniDV sony handycam.
Another option is to send your tapes in to be encoded. StashSpace.Com does this for $7 per hour tape and frequently runs free encoding promotions. Then you can edit your video online to make DVDs or get back a portable hard drive.
